Meet The Family

Darin File was born and raised in Beloit, Kansas, a small town in north central Kansas (he has never liked the Jayhawks, so don’t hold that against him). He grew up in a Christian household that taught him the importance of morals, values and work ethic.

After graduating valedictorian of his high school class, a track scholarship brought Darin to Columbia in 1995. A successful javelin career as a Mizzou Tiger was highlighted by a bronze medal at the 1995 Jr. Pan-American games in Santiago, Chile, a 1997 Big 12 Championship, participation in the 1999 World University Games in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, 3 All-American awards, and a 9th place finish at the 2000 Olympic Trials.

Darin graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri School of Business with a dual degree in Marketing and Management. He tried his hand at a couple of office jobs before he came to the realization that he wasn’t a suit and tie guy. Having grown up on a large family farm and being a hands-on type of guy, the construction industry seemed to be a perfect fit.

After 3 years of laboring and project management responsibilities with a local construction company, Darin decided it was time to go out on his own. He had always dreamed of owning a business but didn’t know exactly what field it would be in. Finally, he founded File Construction, LLC in 2005.

File Construction’s services started with basement finishes and small remodeling projects. By doing almost all laboring in-house, we learned the importance of doing everything correctly because of the effect on the finished product. We gradually worked our way up to larger remodels and additions before deciding to offer new construction services.

Our business has progressively grown solely due to referrals from our satisfied customers. A typical year now consists of 2-4 upper end custom homes and 1-2 remodels.

Outside of work, Darin and Holly spend most of their time chasing their two active kids, Carson and Kylin, and trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Carson loves sports and Kylin is quite a social butterfly. Holly is a full-time mom as well as a health coach, and she has a passion for cooking and a love of animals. Darin enjoys golfing and watching sports in his free time. The family has two very spoiled dogs, Chloe and Gizmo.

Holly also has a degree from MU in Design and has a keen eye for floor plan and interior design. If desired, her expertise can be utilized throughout the building process.
